General-relativistic thin-shell Dyson megaspheres

چکیده

Loosely inspired by the somewhat fanciful notion of detecting an arbitrarily advanced alien civilization, we consider a general-relativistic thin-shell Dyson mega-sphere completely enclosing central star-like object, and perform full analysis using Israel--Lanczos--Sen junction conditions. We focus attention on surface mass density, stress, classical energy conditions, forces between hemispheres. find that in physically acceptable region NEC, WEC, SEC are always satisfied, while DEC can be violated if is sufficiently close to forming black hole. also demonstrate original quasi-local version maximum force conjecture, F <= {1/4} F_{Stoney} = F_{Planck}, easily compact, is, Interestingly there finite parameter space where one violate conjecture without violating DEC. Finally, very briefly discuss possibility nested mega-spheres (Matrioshka configurations) thick-shell mega-spheres.

Rotating Relativistic Thin Disks

Two families of models of rotating relativistic disks based on TaubNUT and Kerr metrics are constructed using the well-known “displace, cut and reflect” method. We find that for disks built from a generic stationary axially symmetric metric the “sound velocity”, (pressure/density)1/2, is equal to the geometric mean of the prograde and retrograde geodesic circular velocities of test particles mo...

Relativistic Dyson Rings and Their Black Hole Limit

In this Letter, we investigate uniformly rotating, homogeneous, and axisymmetric relativistic fluid bodies with a toroidal shape. The corresponding field equations are solved by means of a multidomain spectral method, which yields highly accurate numerical solutions. For a prescribed, sufficiently large ratio of inner to outer coordinate radius, the toroids exhibit a continuous transition to th...

General-relativistic Visualization General Relativity

I n our previous article about special-relativistic visualization,1 we described what the travelers from our highly developed civilization observed when they passed the Earth; now, they set out for the Cygnus X-1 binary system, which is roughly 6,000 light years away. The Cygnus X-1 system consists of a super giant variable star (HDE 226868) and a very compact object—presumably a black hole—wit...

General Relativistic Rossby-Haurwitz waves of a slowly and differentially rotating fluid shell

We show that, at first order in the angular velocity, the general relativistic description of Rossby-Haurwitz waves (the analogues of r waves on a thin shell) can be obtained from the corresponding Newtonian one after a coordinate transformation. As an application, we show that the results recently obtained by Rezzolla and Yoshida (2001) in the analysis of Newtonian Rossby-Haurwitz waves of a s...

General Relativistic Radiative Transfer

Aims. We present a general method to calculate radiative transfer including scattering in the continuum as well as in lines in spherically symmetric systems that are influenced by the effects of general relativity (GR). We utilize a comoving wavelength ansatz that allows to resolve spectral lines throughout the atmosphere. Methods. The used numerical solution is an operator splitting (OS) techn...
